September 2020

Each month we will have a new skill or playlist to focus on – and more ways to earn BIG BUCKS for your Musicianaire Bank Account! The month of September is all about 5-finger patterns (5fp) and arpeggios, along with great songs on our playlist. Students need to begin prepping for the TMTA Theory Test, ETMTA Fall Festival, and UT Tyler Piano Skills Festival. See details below.

September Spotify Playlist

The songs listed on the right are our September Spotify Playlist. You can get the playlist by clicking the link below.

You earn $5 Musicianaire Bucks each time you listen to the full list and $100 MBucks for every song you learn to play.

You can either play the melody or I can help you work out the chords so you can play along with the track.

September Skills

The purple, blue, pink, or green papers in the front of your assignment book will give you all the details about which 5 finger patterns (5fp) and arpeggios (also called hand over hand tonic triads) you need to complete. Complete all your 5 finger patterns and arpeggios for $5.00 per set.

In addition to that, you might also enjoy these “By the Numbers” work sheets. Each worksheet is worth $50 Musicianaire Bucks!

We are starting to prepare for these events in September:

TMTA Theory Test Make sure you do your theory homework each week and bring your questions to me during your lesson. If you don’t do the work at home, we can do it while you have your lesson but where’s the fun in that?

Online students need to scan their theory homework on their computer and email it to me so that I can grade it before your lesson.

The tentative dates for the TMTA Theory Test are Saturday, October 24 and Saturday, January 30. Because of COVID precautions there will be additional opportunities and a variety of ways to take the test. Please let me know which date works best for you.

ETMTA Fall Festival Hosted by East Texas Music Teachers, this event is a good opportunity for students to perform one piece from memory and receive feedback from a qualified judge. $15.00 fee to participate. Usually held at UT Tyler’s Braithwaite Recital Hall, students also have the opportunity to perform on a Steinway grand piano. The tentative date for the Fall Festival is November 7. Please let me know as soon as possible that you will be participating in the ETMTA Fall Festival.

UT Tyler Piano Skills Festival Hosted by UT Tyler, this extensive piano event is best reserved for students who have been studying no less than 2 years. Students participate in five events over the course of the festival: sight reading, technical skills, harmonization and performance of two memorized pieces of piano literature. $32 fee to participate. Held at UT Tyler. Tentative dates: Functional Skills – January 23, Performance Skills and Honors Recital – February 27. Please let me know as soon as possible that you will be participating in the UT Tyler Piano Skills Festival.

Each extracurricular event adds $250.00 to your Musicianaire Bank Account.
