Shelly Davis

I began piano lessons at the request of my father when I was in kindergarten. He said he wanted me to learn to play the theme song from Doctor Zhivago, “Lara’s Theme” (also known as “Somewhere, My Love”).  I studied piano throughout school and into college where I majored in Music Education.

When I was eleven years old, my father became the pastor of a church in our hometown. Soon, I was learning to play hymns and eventually had the opportunity to play for the church’s midweek worship services; and ultimately, the church’s primary pianist.

I still enjoy playing for worship services at various churches from time to time as well as accompanying local choir and band students at their UIL competitions. Sometimes I have the opportunity to provide prelude music for weddings. Once I played for a wedding my father officiated; I played “Somewhere, My Love” just for him.

My husband, Duane, and I have been married since 1988. He plays the guitar and banjo and enjoys building instruments out of cigar boxes. We have four children: Justin, Keri, Austin, and Tracy. Each child is very musical in their own way and we enjoy singing and playing together when we have the opportunity.
